A Winner
In the renowned Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama, The undefeated Auburn Tigers put their undefeated streak on the line against a good Alabama Tide team. With last years Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram Alabama was suspect o have a great season. With two losses on their record a loss against Auburn would of spelled disaster for their season. But with Auburn having this years leading Heisman candidate in Cam Newton Alabama had an uphill battle. Cam Newton a proven winner has lead Auburn this season leading the team in rushing and passing yards. With all the negative publicity following him he has still manager to find ways to win despite the allegations and bad press. With speculations of him receiving money for going to school the wins that he has earned with the team maybe for fitted and any trophy won could be revoked. With all this news going around Newton is still able to focus on the game and lead his team to victories. With people so quick to judge this student athlete as a bad guy, he continues to prove them wrong with his charisma and drive to win. He prove that today by leading his team to a one point come back win against a good Alabama team. Late in the game down 6 points Newton drove his team down field converting on a big fourth down play to keep the drive alive, eventually leading his team with a touchdown pass to take the lead 28-27. In a time were people are so quick to judge and criticize these student athletes who makes these schools rich, its important to not lose site of greatness when you see it and that's what we are seeing in Newton; Greatness. So, with Newton on the verge of getting the Heisman the question is should he get it because of the allegations, since there is a possibility that he might have to give it back like Reggie Bush did. Me personally i think he is the best college football player and he has earned every award he receives.

The Heat Seem to be Cool
The NBA's biggest story of the season was the Miami Heat. How would they play together, how good will they be, will they win 72 or more games. Well with the start of the season, the NBA's super team isn't looking so super. With a mediocre record of 7-4 and and no significant wins besides the Orlando game, the Heat seem to be very average. Unable to beat the Boston Celtics and blown leads against the Utah Jazz and New Orleans Hornets the Heat don't seem to be so hot. Granted its still early in the season and the team is trying to mesh together, that's understandable, but until the Heat show that they are a great team fans show calm down with all the Championship talk. The two time defending champs are the Lakers and the defending Eastern Conference champs are the Boston Celtics, the team that the Heat has not yet beat in two tries. So a message from one NBA fan to another Heat fans cool down like your teams record. The question that all Heat fans need to ask themselves is... How are they going to win anything with no big man. Chris Bosh is soft as tissue paper and all the other bigs the Heat have are sorry. So answer that question to yourselves Heat fans.
Mr. Glass
Number 1 overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft Greg Oden is injured again. Coming out of Ohio State university he was predicted to be the next great big man. He was being compared to Shaquille O'neal and with his size expected to lead the new era of Centers in the NBA. Before he played his first official game in the NBA Greg Oden had to get microfractured knee surgery causing him to sit his entire rookie season. When Greg Oden finally got the chance to play during his second season, he showed promise as a defender and seemed to make strides as an offensive threat. Last season Oden was having a productive year averaging around 12 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks, until he broke his left kneecap in a game versus the Houston Rockets last December, causing him to sit the remainer of the year. This season was a new start for Oden and a chance to gain respect as a number 1 overall pick. Instead he injured his other knee this week leaving everyone in Portland regretting not picking Kevin Durant, who is currently the NBA leading scorer and reigning scoring champion from last year. This situation reminds everyone of Portland picking Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan. Once again Portland got it wrong and once again it will cost them a chance at being a championship contender. So, with Greg Oden being out can Portland still contend with the top teams in the NBA for a title shot? Did the injury to set the organization back a few years?

The Cam Newton Effect
Over the past week, the most dominating news in sports has been about Auburn's quarterback Cam Newton. There are a couple of alleged stories that Cam Newton made his decision on what school to go to based of off money. One story in the news is that Newton's father said to a recruiter that Cam was going to the school that paid the most money. A second story is that Newton told a recruiter from Mississippi State that the money from Auburn was too much to turn down. Now with his image destroyed and his Heisman chances ruined because of all the negative attention, it's important to stop and think for a minute...... is this necessary? We are talking about an athlete who is a student first, being slain by the media for things that haven't been proven true. Instead of talking about how good he is doing on the field people would rather exploit him and talk about all the negative that is going on and the sad thing about it is; IT MAY NOT BE TRUE! If it isn't true a man's image, everything he worked hard to create about himself is destroyed because people wanted to jump to conclusions. Let this man go through the process of being investigated first. Then when it's over people can pass all the judgment they want. At the end of the day I feel like if he did receive money to go to school it's not a big deal, because he's not the first, he isn't going to be the last, and he isn't the only one. I also feel that college athletes should be paid because it's hard enough being a student, but when you’re a student athlete the difficulty enhances tremendously. So I say with all the money that the players are bringing in, they should be able to reap some of the benefits.

The Moss Effect
The Tennessee Titans just aquired wide reciever Randy Moss, who has been traded by one team and released by another. This 33 year old has been with three teams in just one season. People are starting to question is he worth the risk now; more than ever. Moss is in his latter years of his NFL career and seems to cause trouble everywhere he goes. With the Patriots it was a contract dispute and recently with the Vikings he was accused of giving up on plays and belittling a caterer. With all this drama following Moss only one team thought he was worth the risk and that was the Titans. Now that Moss is on a new team, he is getting praised as he always does when he first arrives; but as history has taught us, their relationship is bound to fail.
The Honorable Pierce
Last night on Nov 3, 2010 Celtics forward Paul Pierce became the third player in celtic history to reach 20,000 points; the other two players, Larry Bird and John Havlicek. Even though he is the 36th person in NBA history to do this, it is honorable because he scored all 20,000 points as a Celtic. Since entering the league in 1999 Pierce has only been with one team. In the era we live in today with big name players asking to be traded every year, it is classy to see one guy fight through the tough times with a team and eventually become successful. So, as we recongnize Pierce and his accomplishments, lets embrace most his loyalty to a great organization.

The New Face of Stardom
For the past three years a horse has done something no other athlete has done in history; stay unbeaten. The great UCLA teams went two years unbeaten, and the Miami dolphins went one season unbeaten. This horse has been undefeated for three years and is currently 19-0. I admire the greatness of the horse but for its latest race it was flew out in a private jet, and escorted to Churchhill Downs, Louisville, Ky. by the police with a helicopter overseeing everything. I can understand this for a person, but it’s a horse. Just put it in the back of one of those horse wagons with some hay and call it a trip. I don’t understand why a horse would need all that. It’s an animal so it’s unable to appreciate the finer things in life like a private jet. From the accomplishments of the horse I can understand all of it was deserved, but at the end of the day I just think it’s a little over board. What’s next, they going to hold a press conference for the horse and let it explain how it won the race.
The Lincecum Giants
On Monday November 1, 2010 as many people watched Monday Night Football, and some NBA games with their League Pass, a small majority of the world tuned in to watch Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum take over the world. That Monday night Lincecum lead his team to victory over the Texas Ranger to become World Series champions. He is the only pitcher in the post season to ever beat Ranger’s pitcher Cliff Lee who he beat twice and most importantly when it counted during Monday’s game to become champs. Cliff Lee of the Ranger was undefeated in post season play with a record of 7-0. Lincecum, the NL’s CY Young winner the past two years dominated in the two games he pitched in the World Series. He pitched eight innings in the final game striking out 10 Texas Ranger on his way to Victory, doing something that not even Barry Bonds could do; lead the Giants their first World Series in History.
KG: The Trash Talker
During a game against the Detroit Pistons, forward of the Boston Celtics Kevin Garnette allegedly called forward of the Detroit Pistons Charlie Villanueva a “cancer patient”. This information was spilled out in a rant by Villanueva on his Twitter page, calling out Garnette on his trash talking and saying that he would “love to get in a ring with him” and he would, “expose him”. Big words coming from a guy who waited until he was home after the game to express how he felt. I mean that’s just like getting into an argument with someone and waiting until you got home to put on Facebook that you would expose them in a fight. It doesn’t make sense to me. If Villanueva was so hurt by the remarks he should of did something on the court, not waited until he got home; that’s soft. As far as calling someone a cancer patient, I don’t see the harm in it because it was in the heat of the moment on the basketball court and he was talking trash; much worse has been said on a court. So, Mr. Villanueva stop worrying about the name calling and focus on getting a win.
The Lakers Continuing Their Winning Ways
As the season begins and everyone focuses on the Miami Heat, across the nation on the west coast the defending champs are winning as they always do. Coming off their 83-79 game seven victory against the Celtics in last year’s finals, the Lakers start this season undefeated so far with a 4-0 record. They are currently leading the league in scoring at 114.3ppg; they are 2nd in rebounding with 51 per game, and 8th in assist with 22.3 per game. The Lakers are picking up where they left off last season as the #1 team in the western conference. With an easy game against a young Sacramento Kings team and their next three games after that at home, it’s safe to say that their road to perfection this season maybe lengthy. With the Lakers flying under the radar this season, the record for 72 wins in a season seems possible.
